SLFWA
BACKGROUND
SLFWA a registered charity was founded in 2001 by a group of West African Diaspora. On seeing the lack of assistance available for people from West Africa, in particular Sierra Leonean, after the devastating effect of the war in 2000, they decided to set up SLFWA.
SLFWA offers a helping hand for the West African Community settling in to the UK, and an opportunity to meet with people from their homeland.
SLFWA is a not-for-profit charity. We work in conjunction with various other charities such as MAGHAS to provide advice and guidance to West Africans and access to basic services including social services, education and health.
MISSION STATEMENT
To develop a sound programme of community and social development for West Africans in the UK and abroad.
AIMS
SLFWA aims to alleviate stress, hardship and poverty for the West African community.
OBJECTIVES
Encourage Sierra Leonean and other West African Diaspora to share their skills and knowledge with the newly arrived refugees.
Ease integration into British society by providing a listening ear for confidential issues when language barriers may be a problem.
Claudia Macauley
Founder of SLWFA and MAGHAS
Claudia has 20 years experience in social work and she is the Chief Executive of the Sierra Leone Family Welfare Association.
Claudia desires to bring a better quality of life to those in need. She first had the spiritual vision for MAGHAS while she was in the shower.
Claudia has 2 children, Lynette and Tina who are already following in their mother's footsteps and have a desire to help those in need.
Claudia is married to Fayo, her childhood sweetheart whom she met 25 years ago; Fayo is a great support to Claudia. And to complete the family, Claudia has a cat called Tiny.
